The beginning of Strikes & Strangles
Mixed Martial Arts is a combination of martial arts styles all blended into one under a unified ruleset to determine which is the best. Time would reveal that no specific martial art is the best, but the ability to blend all the styles into one comprehensive style would reign supreme!
“Strikes” makes reference to the “stand-up” styles which incorporate quick movement and dynamic striking to cause damage and render their opponents unconscious.
“Strangles” makes reference to the “ground” styles which makes use of strength and technique to subdue, control and submit their opponents.
Bringing the worlds of “stand-up” and “ground” together into one style we bring you “Strikes & Strangles”
“The best fighter is not a boxer, karate or judo man. The best fighter is someone who can adapt to any style, to be formless, to adopt an individual’s own style and not following the system of styles.” ~ Bruce Lee
What’s Our Why?
When you pursue a career in Mixed Martial Arts it is encouraged that you figure out your “why” early on.
Your “why” is the reason that you enter the cage, the reason you will walk into the face of adversity with a smile, the reason that you will come back after a win or after a loss. It is bigger than you or anything you hope to achieve.
Our “why” is to grow the sport of Mixed Martial Arts in South Africa! To create opportunities for fighters to express themselves and make a career out of it.
Where to From Here?
Founded by twin brothers, who both are active in the South African MMA scene, it became evident that the local coverage of the sport is insufficient and fighters are unable to make a full time career out of the sport.
Strikes & Strangles was formed to grow the sport bringing coverage and resources to the fighters. With an initial focus on video-based content we quickly realised that a digital-news-form would enhance our reach exponentially and be congruent to our efforts in the video-based world.
Strikes & Strangles aims to be the authority on any news or media related to the Mixed Martial Arts industry in South Africa.
With an intense focus on Mixed Martial Arts and other Combat Sports we will achieve our goal of increasing coverage, awareness and support for the South African Mixed Martial Arts community.
